The Ibisi Mountain washing station is situated in the scenic hills of Southern Rwanda and is conveniently located just a short drive away from the Nyungwe Forest, a renowned national park recognized for its abundant endemic species. Local farmer Bernard Uwitije had been primarily producing commodity coffee until 2015 when he recognized the potential for processing fully-washed specialty coffees in collaboration with Rwanda Trading Company.

Established in 2009 with the aim of promoting positive social impact, Rwanda Trading Company has consistently demonstrated its dedication to establishing durable and transparent supply chains that secure economic freedom and stability for smallholder farmers. The group possesses and manages sixteen wet mills and maintains direct relationships with farmers throughout Rwanda. They purchase, mill, process, and market their coffees while also investing in producing communities through agribusiness training programs. These programs, established in 2013, focus on cultivating innovation and reducing production costs, leading to an impressive 86 percent increase in farm revenue for RTC's producer-partners. This collaborative effort promotes sustainable economic stability from the ground up.

Thanks to his partnership with Rwanda Trading Company, Bernard Uwitije built his first washing station, Gitega Hills. He later expanded his reach with the washing station at Ibisi Mountain, which was recognized as one of the top 40 spots in the Rwanda Cup of Excellence.
